This page will be a compendium of my own gold-making tips, so I suppose you could consider this my personal gold guide. Some of the strategies I’ll detail here are adapted from commercial guides, but most will be things I’ve picked up on my own in the 5 years I’ve played the game.

Auction House Tips

If you’re looking to flip items in the auction house for a quick profit, there are 2 easy markets to target. The consistently lucrative one that I target, as you may have guessed by my twitter posts, is the twink items market. Take a look at a few different twink sites and figure out what the most sought after items are. If you’re having trouble, just Google something like “29 twink hunter” or “29 twink rogue”.  Sites like PWN Depot are good resources as well.

Another good tip for making gold using the auction house is to download a mod called Auctioneer and use it judiciously.  Before you actually start trusting it with your hard earned gold, you’ll want to calibrate it.  You can do this by logging in 2 or 3 times a day and letting it run a scan.  After 3 or 4 days, it should have a pretty good idea of the average price that items on your server sell for.  There’s a tool within Auctioneer called “BottomScanner”.  This is what you’re looking for.  Run a search with BottomScanner, and buy out or bid on anything that is at least 50% below its regular price.  Resell it for just below the usual price, and if the market is super saturated just hold onto it until it settles a bit.

Once you get to know the market fairly well, you’ll be able to see trends.  Once you pick up on these, you’ll know when certain items are saturated vs. when they are in low supply.  Can you see where this is going?  Grab up the whole stock of items at their bargain basement price, and then trickle them into the market with no competition on the low supply days.  This is something you may want to make an alt for.  Some people will be very upset with you for using this tactic, and the ignore list is only so long.
